On the road to Tully and Mission Beach, just outside of Cardwell, north of Townsville yet south of Cairns, lies this old homestead. I took a picture of it (obviously).

One day, I took Lee, from Korea, to Alligator Creek. We did the 18 km hike up there.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%283%29.jpg)
It was a nice view.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%282%29.jpg)
But VERY dangerous. We could have plummetted over 100 metres to our deaths! But we didn't.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%284%29.jpg)
I took a footbath in one of the rock pools. It was too cold.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%285%29.0.jpg)
But it had a nice view.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%286%29.0.jpg)
On the way out, there were some wallabies with children.
Steve and Beth invited me sailing Sunday. They have a nice boat.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%289%29.0.jpg)
Lawrence joined us.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%288%29.0.jpg)
Luckily I did not crash the boat into the jetties.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2810%29.jpg)
I gave a presentation to Mundingburra about my proposed PhD research in Brasil.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2815%29.jpg)
Lee, me, and Florian (YEP student from Germany) rode up to Mission Beach last weekend. We stopped along the way at Wallaman Falls, the largest dropping waterfall in Australia.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2811%29.jpg)
Flo was stronger than me.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2812%29.jpg)
But the waterfall was cool.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2813%29.jpg)
It started here.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2814%29.jpg)
And fell there.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2816%29.jpg)
We hiked down through the rainforest to the bottom.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2819%29.jpg)
The water was quicker down.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2818%29.jpg)
It ended here.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2820%29.jpg)
How lush, the tropical rain forest.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2817%29.jpg)
And green.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2822%29.jpg)
Don't know what this plant is. Probably poisonous. Likely deadly.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2821%29.jpg)
This rock could be deadly, too. You never know what things can get you here.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2823%29.jpg)
Wow, here is a nice Land Rover
Defender Turbo Diesel Ingine Extreme from Victoria.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2824%29.jpg)
No, this isn't Wallaman. It's Murray Falls near Cardwell.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2825%29.jpg)
So on the road to Mission Beach are these silly signs every 10 metres.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2826%29.jpg)
Obviously for these. We were lucky to see this on the side of the road--only about 1200 alive. This one was fortunate that I wasn't in a bad mood and was driving a precious Volvo.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2827%29.jpg)
So then we were off to the beach.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2828%29.jpg)
Mission Beach is something like 12 km, supposedly.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2829%29.jpg)
It was Flo's first time out of Townsville.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2830%29.jpg)
There's Dunk island.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2831%29.jpg)
There's some rocks.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2832%29.jpg)
And there is Korean Gandolf.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2833%29.jpg)
Flo was overjoyed to be away from Townsville.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2834%29.jpg)
Lee enjoyed playing around.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2848%29.jpg)
He was busy catching crabs, like this one.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2849%29.jpg)
Or this one.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2851%29.jpg)
They make these little sand balls.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2850%29.jpg)
Here's my giant foot for comparison.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2835%29.jpg)
Here's Uncle Lane's version of transportation.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2836%29.jpg)
And here's mine. (How classy).
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2837%29.jpg)
Here's the view to Hinchenbrook.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2838%29.jpg)
Beware! There are dealy snakes everywhere.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2839%29.jpg)
Living in nasty places like this cool stream.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2840%29.jpg)
Down this road.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2843%29.jpg)
But not on the beach.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2842%29.jpg)
There's Hinchenbrook again from Cardwell.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2841%29.jpg)
Here's a nice creek.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2844%29.jpg)
Did I mention that Tully has a giant rubber boot that they call 'gumboot'?
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2846%29.jpg)
Here's the Tully sugar mill. All the way up there from Townsville there's nothing but sugarcane.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2845%29.jpg)
Here's Tully city/town. Looks like Aspen. Only tropical.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2847%29.jpg)
Here's an old canefarmer's church.
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1776/2291/320/d%20%2852%29.jpg)
Until next time, I'll be trying to pick up strongyloides by walking barefoot.
